But as the afternoon progressed, I started feeling guilty about not having brought my tuxedo. I did the whole trip with carry on luggage and had just nice slacks, shirt and tie to wear that night. Finally I headed downtown to search for something a little dressier. With my size, options are limited, but I did find a lambs wool sweater vest at Marks and Spencer which would double as a nice souvenir of the trip. Returning to the Clyde Auditorium at 6PM, it was time for the pre-awards reception where I took some photos and caught up with Pat Cardigan and others that I hadn't seen yet during the weekend.
The Hugo Awards Ceremony was at 8, and again started right on time. Following the Hosts' well received shtick about the awards being named for Victor Hugo instead of Hugo Gernsback, I was the first presenter, giving out the First Fandom Hall of Fame Award. Then back to my second row seat to photograph the rest of the ceremony.
Following the ceremony there were continuous shuttle buses back to the other hotels, and the nominees and presenters went to the Hilton for a very nice party hosted by next year's WorldCon in LA.
