650' Algoma Intrepid passing under the 5 mile Mackinac Bridge in the morning Sunday - Day 4 (July 16, 2023) Most mornings during our travels I am up an hour or two before Linda. When we are in Mackinaw City I usually start the day looking out at the water either from our balcony or from a bench along the shore closer to the Mackinac Bridge. This morning is hazy from some of the smoke that has been coming to much of the northeast US. It was also hazy yesterday evening. Multiple freighters and cruise ships were passing through the Straits of Mackinac this morning. I went for a short drive, taking photos from a few of my favorite spots and stopping at the Mackinaw Bakery to have a scone for breakfast.
We started the day's explorations with a drive over the 5 mile long Mackinac Bridge and a visit to Straits State Park, which is right next to the bridge. There are three lookout locations along the bluff in the park which offer unique views of the bridge.
Then on to the Mackinac County Airport where Denny and Stacy Fitch of Fly Delta Fox flew in from Mackinac Island to meet us. Fly Delta Fox has been doing Chicago Air Tours for several years and this year they have added air tours from Mackinac Island on Thursday through Sunday. They have just added flying out of the St. Ignace Airport as an option and Denny took us on a 25 minute flight over St. Ignace, Mackinac Island, Mackinaw City and the Mackinac Bridge to take photos for our Mighty Mac Facebook page. We made a point of visiting the 6 lighthouses which are closest to the bridge.
