Our liana Saturday - day 9 We followed our walk with a drive along some of the beach before checking into the Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club. The hotel provides free parking in a high rise a few blocks away. When we were registering, the clerk asked if we were OK with stairs, about 13 steps. After we agreed that would be OK if we had assistance taking up our luggage, they upgraded us to the Penthouse Bungalow. The room was only about 50% larger than standard, but it had a huge liana rooftop deck, which wrapped around three sides, with plants and seating for 10. The hotel is largely surrounded by taller buildings, so it was mainly a view of the city, with a little of the ocean and mountains in the distance. We enjoyed having cocktails on the liana in the evenings.
We had supper at Mahina & Sun's restaurant in our hotel. While we were waiting for our food, we enjoyed the dance troupe Uzumati performing Yosakoi (Japanese dance) around the adjacent pool. They were participating in the Japanese Festival in Honolulu this weekend. Our dishes were seasoned with Hawaiian condiments and fruits. We started with a blue marlin a'u crudo, sashimi style with smoked siy, yuzu, chile, inamona and limu. We had rib eye and pork chop for our mains and finished the meal with a white chocolate Calamansi tart.
