Honolulu Festival Fireworks

Sunday - Day 10 (part 2)

When we returned to Waikiki, traffic was slowed to a crawl because of the Honolulu Festival and after 45 minutes of creeping closer to our hotels, we asked to be let off to walk back to our hotel. Our route paralleled the Festival and we detoured to watch the parade for a half hour. The theme of this year's festival was "Pacific Harmony," and the parade entries reflected the various cultures of the Pacific region. The parade was primarily groups of marchers, with few floats or musical entries.

We had supper at Genius Lounge, less than a block from Surfjack Hotel. It is on the third floor of a building without an elevator. Happy Hour is 6-7PM, and we decided to take advantage of it with calamari, garlic shrimp, Yazo chicken, curly fries and a couple of sweet cocktails, a lava flow and a pina colada. The whole meal with drinks was only $64 and actually one of my favorites of the trip. I particularly enjoyed my pina colada, I think I tried too hard to become a Mai Tai fan during this trip.

The only negative was no menus. I do not enjoy reading a complicated, poorly designed, many page menu on my phone.

We stopped at the ABC store on the corner on the way back to the hotel and picked up drinks to enjoy on our Lanai, where we had a pleasant final night of our trip. The evening concluded with the Honolulu Festival fireworks display. It was partially blocked by the high rise buildings between us and the beach, but still fun.
