Thursday - Day 7 The day began with our long awaited whale cruise with Pacific Whale Foundation. Our tour departed from Maalaea Harbor and we saw our first humpback whales within 5 minutes. Although we didn't get as good a look at the whales as I would have loved, we saw whales or their activity around us for the entire two hours. Mostly backs, tails, spouts or blowing bubbles. At times we were near 7 or more whales at the same time. Our boat only spotted 3 breaches (where a whale rises significantly up out of the water). I saw just one of them and didn't get a picture. I would of liked to have taken better photos, but the rocking of the boat made it hard to find the whales in the viewfinder, let alone focus and compose. If we were here a few more days, I would be tempted to go again. We both had taken whale tours before (Linda in California and I in Massachusetts) and this tour was much better than those!
We had lunch at Tante's Fishmarket Restaurant & Bar in the same shopping center as the Pacific Whale Foundation. We shared three appetizers: peel & eat garlic shrimp. deep fried oysters and Japanese style furikake fries. All were good, with my favorite dish being the shrimp. It was plenty of food for the two of us and the service was good.
