Thursday continued

Returning to San Marco, we spent about an hour touring the Museo Correr and attached Museo Archeologico Nazionale. They were OK, but not where we wanted to spend much of our last few hours in Venice.

Much as I had loved taking photos of the church of San Giorgio Maggiore in the distance all week, Linda had felt the same way about the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute which is across the Grand Canal in the Dorsoduro Sestieri. The baroque church was built by the Republic of Venice in the 1630s in hopes of deliverance from a plague.

Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute interior
The interior is octagonal with eight radiating chapels on the outer row - I love this marble floor

Punta della Dogana - Venice
Most photos of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute include the low Punta della Dogana in the foreground -
the former Venice customs house is now a contemporary art museum
